17. What Is the Work Environment Like in Japan?

  • Japan offers one of the most stable and friendly work environments in the world; however, it is also highly disciplined and has strict quality standards.
  • The basic working hours for technical interns are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, with a maximum of 2 days off per week. Interns can use their free time for rest, travel, and exploring Japanese culture. However, work schedules are generally determined by the company, though annual leave is guaranteed by law.
  • Many interns use their evenings over the 3-year period to study and improve their Japanese proficiency. The Japanese people highly value education and provide opportunities for interns to learn. If interns achieve N2 or N3 certification after three years, they will have better career prospects both in Japan and upon returning to Vietnam.
